Richard has worked extensively as a storyteller, to children big and small!

Children's storytelling:

He has performed in several Kidstory shows at York Theatre Royal, he has performed educational stories around primary schools and is periodically employed by City of York Council to perform stories at festivals and events. Most recently Richard has appeared at the Galtres Festival 2011, performing stories with a strong emphasis on mud! His interactive methods of storytelling help to engage an audience and they can then lead onto activities based around the stories. He also incorporates music, juggling and magic skills into such events. Richard continues to tie his storytelling into story days for groups and nurseries and has recently been employed to run training sessions for Early Years Practitioners on Bringing Stories to Life. He has also just established a Community Interest Company called Telling Arts alongside other York based storytellers Mary Passeri, Adrian Spendlow and Catherine Heinemeyer. More information on the work of Telling Arts to follow.

Favourite Interactive stories that Richard performs include Room on the Broom, Stick Man and We're Going on a Bear Hunt plus many more, some of which are less well known - for a more comprehensive list click here. Richard is also in the process of writing some new stories, including some that he devised alongside pupils at St. Mary's school, Selby.

Ghost Stories:

For bigger kids Richard performed ghost stories on Yorkboat's Ghost Cruise for several years and has written and performed two Halloween shows for the York Maze "Hallowscream" event. Entitled "An Audience with the Undertakers" this half hour show has proved a very popular element of the Fright Night event. To listen to the beginning of last year's show click here.

Richard will be returning to York Maze this year for the daytime event.

Comments from An Audience with the Undertakers;

"An Audience With The Undertakers – a brilliant act who kindly came back from the dead to relay tales of ghosts and monsters in the most engaging manner."

Carolyn Coles

York Press 30.10.10

"The concept of telling ghost stories to a predominantly adult audience could have fallen flat, but the quality of the acting, their timing and use of suspense and humour held the audience's attention throughout"

www.hauntedattractions.co.uk

"the ghost story telling in the barn was by far and away the best part. Really well done, it was well worth the ticket price alone."
